אֱלֹהִים
elohim
eh-lo-HEEM
God, gods
Where it comes from
Elohim is plural in form and takes a singular verb when it means the God of Israel — a grammatical oddity that has been argued about for two thousand years. In this verse it appears in the ordinary plural, and the command is not to argue about them but to have none.
