אֲדֹנָי

adonai

ah-doe-NIGH

Lord, my lord, master

Where it comes from

Adonai means master, and it is what readers say aloud when the text has the divine name. Every time the King James prints LORD in small capitals, a Hebrew reader is saying this word instead. Reverence built into the reading itself.
