כָּבוֹד

kavod

kah-VODE

glory, weight, substance

Where it comes from

The root means heaviness. Glory in Hebrew is not brightness but weight — the sense that something is substantial and cannot be brushed aside.

Psalm 19:1-2

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
