Where it comes from

The verb behind sabbath, and it means to stop rather than to be tired. God ceases on the seventh day, and nothing in the text suggests He needed a rest.

Genesis 2:2

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
