Where it comes from

The formless water at the start of Genesis. Neighbouring cultures made the deep a monster to be defeated; Hebrew makes it a thing God simply moves over.

Genesis 1:2

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
