khah-TAH
to miss the mark, to sin
Where it comes from
The plain sense is missing a target — Judges uses it of slingers who could hit a hair and not miss. Sin in Hebrew is aimed at something and falling short of it.
Genesis 4:7
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
