מָקוֹם
maqom
ma-KOME
place
Where it comes from
An ordinary word for an ordinary spot. Jacob stops there because the sun went down, not because it was holy, and finds out afterwards. Later Jewish usage makes ha-Maqom, The Place, a name for God himself.
Genesis 28:16
And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
