בּוֹר

bor

BORE

pit, cistern, dungeon

Where it comes from

A bor is a hole cut to hold water. This one is empty, which is why a man can be kept in it. The same word is used for the prison Joseph later sits in, and for the grave. Scripture keeps putting people in holes and getting them out again.
