אֶהְיֶה
ehyeh
eh-YEH
I will be, I am
Where it comes from
Ehyeh is a verb, not a noun — first person, and Hebrew does not pin it to a tense. I am, I will be, I am becoming. Moses asks for a name he can quote and gets a verb he cannot fix in place. The answer is a refusal and a promise at once.
