“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”

The Message
John is told to look at the Lion. He looks, and one verse later there stands a Lamb as it had been slain. Promised a Lion, shown a Lamb — not instead of, the same one. And not a lamb in general, but a Lamb that has been killed and is standing. Of all the animals in scripture, this is the one Jesus is given. Not the eagle. Not the lion first. The animal with no defence at all.
The Creature
Scripture uses the lion for both sides. Peter’s lion is roaring and walketh about — noise and prowling, looking for something to take. John’s Lion hath prevailed. It is already finished. One is making a great deal of sound while it hunts; the other has no need to.
