The Message
Jesus picks the raven deliberately. Under the law it was an unclean bird, a scavenger, the one nobody would have chosen for the illustration. That is the point. If God feeds the bird you were taught not to touch, the argument about you is already finished.
The Creature
Ravens are among the small number of animals that make and use tools. They recognise individual human faces, remember which individuals have cheated them, and can mimic speech. Wild ravens have been recorded planning for future events, which very few animals outside the great apes appear to do.
