Psalm 116 · Book Five
Hallel
About this psalm
A personal thank-you after a near thing: the sorrows of death compassed me, and then, Return unto thy rest, O my soul. It contains a line that has comforted the bereaved for centuries — Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints — and it keeps asking what can be given back. The answer it lands on is the cup of salvation and paid vows.
