About this psalm
Psalms 9 and 10 share one alphabet between them: this half runs from the first Hebrew letter and stops partway, and the next psalm picks it up. Here the tone is confident. God has rebuked the heathen, the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands, and the needy shall not alway be forgotten. The title names a tune, The Death of the Son.
Read it with Psalm 10, which is the same prayer after the confidence runs out.

17The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.18For the needy shall not alway be forgotten:the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.19Arise, O LORD;let not man prevail:let the heathen be judged in thy sight.20Put them in fear, O LORD:that the nations may know themselves to be but men.Selah
