Zechariah

King James Version · 14 chapters · 211 verses · Old Testament

Night visions and a coming king

The word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, working alongside Haggai to get the temple rebuilt. He starts with a series of visions in one night — horsemen, a measuring line, a lampstand fed by two olive trees, a flying roll — and a word for a discouraged Zerubbabel: not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit. The later chapters turn to the future and get remarkably specific. A king coming to Jerusalem lowly and riding upon an ass. Thirty pieces of silver. A shepherd struck and the sheep scattered. Looking on one whom they have pierced.
