Jonah
King James Version · 4 chapters · 48 verses · Old Testament
The prophet who ran
The word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, telling him to go to Nineveh, the capital of the empire that would one day destroy his country. He went the opposite way. A storm, a ship full of terrified sailors, a man thrown overboard at his own suggestion, and three days in the belly of a great fish. He goes to Nineveh the second time, preaches eight words of judgment, and the entire city repents, which is the one outcome he could not bear. The book ends with God asking him a question about a plant, and no answer is recorded.
