King James Version · 21 chapters · 879 verses · New Testament
Written so that you might believe
The other three gospels start on earth; this one starts before the beginning. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. It leaves out most of the parables and gives long conversations instead — Nicodemus at night, a Samaritan woman at a well at the sixth hour, and a farewell that runs for four chapters. It is built around signs and I AM sayings: the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life. The writer states his purpose outright: that ye might believe.
