How to know that you know
No greeting and no name, just a man saying he had heard, seen and handled the Word of life himself. The letter circles back over the same few themes rather than moving in a line, and it is written so that you may know that you have eternal life. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive them. Love one another, because God is love. And running through it, a set of plain tests: what you believe about Christ, how you treat other believers, and whether you go on in sin.
