The same history, from the temple's side
Nine chapters of genealogy first, running from Adam through the tribes, and they are there for a reason: a people just back from exile needed to know they were still the same people. Then the book retells David's reign, but with almost everything difficult left out. The Bathsheba affair is gone, and so is Absalom's rebellion. What it keeps is the ark brought to Jerusalem, the psalms of thanksgiving, and above all David's preparation for the temple he was not allowed to build — the plans, the materials, the singers, the gatekeepers, all handed to Solomon. It is history written to answer the question: who are we now?
