King James Version · 24 chapters · 658 verses · Old Testament

Taking the land

Moses is dead and Joshua leads. The Jordan is at flood stage and stops when the priests step into it. Jericho falls after seven days of marching. Then a long campaign through the land, interrupted early by Achan, whose hidden theft costs the nation a battle, and by the Gibeonites, who get a treaty by pretending to have travelled a long way. The second half is land division, tribe by tribe, boundary by boundary. Joshua's farewell is one of the best known lines in the Bible: choose you this day whom ye will serve. The generation that heard it did.
