Better than everything that came before
The book does not name its writer or its recipients, and it reads more like a sermon than a letter. It is written to believers under pressure to go back to the system they came from, and its whole argument is one word: better. Christ is better than the angels, better than Moses, a better priest of a better covenant with a better sacrifice, offered once rather than repeated year after year. It only makes full sense if you have read Leviticus. Chapter 11 runs through the people who lived by faith without receiving the promise, and chapter 12 tells the readers to run their own race.
