Exodus

King James Version · 40 chapters · 1213 verses · Old Testament

Slavery, rescue, and a covenant

Four hundred and thirty years later the family has become a nation, and Egypt has made it a slave nation. God raises up Moses, sends ten plagues, and brings Israel out on the night of the first Passover. The sea opens, Pharaoh's army drowns, and the people walk into the wilderness free and completely unprepared for it. At Sinai God gives the Ten Commandments and the law, and the people build a golden calf while Moses is still up the mountain receiving them. The last third is the tabernacle: exact instructions for a tent where a holy God can live among an unholy people.
