About this woodcut

An old man sits at the left with a bowl, his garment loose. A woman stands beside him and another comes with a cup. A great ewer stands on a plinth and a cask lies at his feet. Vines grow behind.

This is the first drunkenness in scripture and Solis draws it without comment. Noah has just come off the ark, planted a vineyard, and this is what happened next. The picture is calm, domestic and slightly sad, which is a braver reading than making it shameful.
